Logistics and Inspection Intern
Are you eager to take ownership in a fast-growing deep-tech startup and gain hands-on experience in logistics and operations? Lightium, a company at the forefront of ultra-high-speed photonic integrated circuits (PICs), invites students or recent graduates in engineering, supply chain, or business-related fields to join us for a 6-month, full-time, paid internship within our Operations Team. This is a unique opportunity to actively contribute to building and structuring our shipment, logistics and inventory processes, forming a critical backbone of our technology development and production activities.
Internship Summary
As part of our Operations Team, you will support and progressively take responsibility for shipment, logistics, and inventory management. You will ensure smooth material flow across different countries and different production/R&D sites, working closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers. From receiving and dispatching goods to contributing to ERP implementation and writing clear procedures, you will gain end-to-end exposure to how a semiconductor startup structures and scales its logistics processes.
This role comes with real ownership and visibility. For a motivated and hands-on individual, it offers the opportunity to grow into a permanent position and take full responsibility for warehouse and inventory management over time.
Key Responsibilities
Managing incoming parcels, coordinating with internal stakeholders, and completing goods acceptance documentation.
Preparing and packaging outgoing shipments, creating shipping labels, and organizing dispatches with carriers.
Understanding export regulations and compliance needs.
Monitoring shipment tracking for critical deliveries and proactively following up when needed.
Building an infrastructure for full traceability of every wafer and chip, including handling the labeling, wafer taping, vacuum tweezers, die marking, and Pick&Place inside our cleanroom.
Managing sorting processes of semiconductor chips and wafers, including die singulations, final inspection, sorting, packaging in GelPak and sealing.
Supporting inventory management, stock accuracy, and material flow control across teams.
Contributing to the implementation and daily use of our ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system.
Writing and improving shipment and logistics procedures to ensure clarity and scalability, including handing of export control and customs related processes.
Supporting the handling of larger deliveries (crates or pallets) and using a forklift when required.
Traveling between different R&D and production sites of the company, ensuring that a high level of traceability and packaging quality is present in every site.
What You’ll Bring
Current student or recent graduate with apprenticeship or technical diploma from FH in Logistics, Shipment, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field.
Strong interest in logistics, warehouse management, and operational processes.
Hands-on attitude to work in the cleanroom in sorting delicate products and chips.
Structured, reliable, and hands-on working style with attention to detail.
Motivation to take ownership and improve processes in a growing startup environment.
Confidence using digital tools; interest in ERP systems and data-driven inventory management.
Forklift training or willingness to obtain certification is a plus.
Fluency in English and German. Swiss German is a plus.
What We Offer
A hands-on learning experience at the forefront of the PIC industry, directly contributing to advancements that redefine technological boundaries.
A vibrant and supportive work environment where your contributions are valued and can lead to groundbreaking innovations.
A competitively paid position with the possibility to transition into a full-time role with Employee Stock Option Plan (ESOP) upon outstanding performance.
The ability to participate in continuing education (training, conferences, events, etc.).
Being treated like a regular member of the team, such as inclusion at team events and our annual fall retreat.
An opportunity to collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the field, gaining insights and knowledge that will be invaluable in your future career.
We’d love to hear from you if you’re motivated to take initiative, build structure where it matters, and grow with a company that is shaping the future of photonics. Lightium is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. About Lightium AG
Just as silicon chips reshaped electronics, Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) are poised to revolutionize how we process, store, and transmit data. As data creation and consumption explode, transmission speeds struggle to keep up.
We are proud to be Europe’s first company to offer a high-volume, production-grade foundry platform based on our proprietary thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) technology. This material outperforms traditional silicon photonics in speed, power efficiency, and overall performance.
We are positioned at the forefront of photonics, enabling ultra-high speeds for our connected world.
